The second TBM that will excavate the Lot 3 Lercara-Caltanissetta Xirbi successfully completed the FAT test


On April 11, the second TBM, with a diameter of 9.32m, which will excavate the Lot 3 Lercara-Caltanissetta Xirbi for the construction of the Marianopoli tunnel of the Palermo-Catania link successfully completed the FAT test.

Lot 3 involves the detailed design and construction of 47km of new railway line, with the route mostly a variant from the historic line. The contract includes the construction of about 22 km of tunnels (including interconnections), more than 11 km of rail and road viaducts, 32 km of connected roads, and the modernization of Vallelunga station. The line will have a maximum speed of up to 200 km/h.
